The "Stay Home - Stay Safe" order goes into effect tonight for non-essential travel. As Ashevillians we still need our essentials- delicious food, beer, etc. and many of your favorite local places will continue offering curbside service and delivery for you to get what you want and need.

As things seem to be changing by the hour, Dig Local has added new ways to keep in touch with our community while we support and enjoy the unique culture, food, music, art, beer, yoga, crafts and so much more that is the soul of our mountain town.

We know times are tough, y'all. This issue of the Breaking Scoop offers tips to help you feel connected during quarantine and some uplifting stories about what is taking place this very minute to care for our neighbors in need in this time of crisis.

Local curbside takeout? Gift cards for local businesses? Curbside beer and spirits? Free meals for kids? Local delivery and drive-thrus? All of our heads are still spinning right now while everyone is attempting to navigate the "new normal." We're here to help.

Download the new 3.0 version of Dig Local from the App Store or Google Play (or update your current version) to get access to the new helpful "LIST" feature. Look for lists by "Asheville says F. COVID-19!" We're constantly keeping it updated with all of the latest information on how to get what you want and need.

You can also create your own lists, save your favorite places and events for quick reference, and share your personal profile with your own individual QR code. This is a good way to express and imagine where you'll go and what you'll do when the quarantine is over. Also, our local business friends will feel the love by seeing their business included on your list. And they really need some love right now.

You can still connect to our local quirky culture with Virtual Local Events! It really stinks that COVID-19 has forced events to cancel, from concerts and yoga classes to festivals and art gallery openings. Luckily our community is an innovative one and has adapted. Many venues and artists are now live streaming events online to audiences.

Wouldn't it be great to find all of those in one place?

Introducing Dig Local's Virtual Local Events, where you can check out our calendar of streaming local events, as well as online galleries and other cool stuff. Want your event listed? Simply submit your event info here and send it in!

You can also check out our brand new Facebook page created specifically for these events.
To get even more eyes on your virtual event:
• Create your Facebook event
• Request the Dig Local Virtual Local Events page as a co-host
(and if approved it will appear on the Scoop Calendar on The Dig Local app and website.)

We're always sharing a ton of local events that we come across, so be sure to like the Facebook page and share it with friends!

Announcing the #digAVL Video Series! Well, folks, it looks like our social distancing and self-quarantining practices will remain in place for awhile, and with good reason. The health, safety, and well-being of our community is our #1 priority. However, our local economy, fueled mostly by tourism and local businesses, is taking a huge hit. We want to do our part to support our local business community by sharing their stories, promoting their products and services, and hearing how they are giving back to the community during this crisis.

We’ve partnered with Ann Smith, owner of Leap Frog Tours, to bring you this video series.  Each week, we’ll showcase a different local business owner. If you’d like to be featured in the series, please fill out this form. Once we’ve collected your information, we will follow up with you directly. Please note that Ann's interviews will be conducted and recorded remotely (for now).

We’re all in this together, and once this crisis has passed, we want Asheville to be stronger and more vibrant than ever. If you have any questions, email [email protected]
Local Asheville Businesses Stepping Up
Watch this amazing video! We've been blown away by the attitudes of some of our local businesses and how positive and brave they are being right now. Despite taking unimaginable hits to their livelihoods, they're continuing to make a big difference in the lives of our neighbors in need in our community. (Look for special appearances from our friends at Jerusalem Garden, Homegrown, Mountain Madre, Celine & Company, Grail Moviehouse and more!)
Flori Pate of Dig Local and Food Connection with Shay Brown of Shay Brown Events
Heads up to our friends who've lost their service industry jobs... We are thinking about you and are working in collaboration with #AshevilleStrong on helpful measures. Food Connection has loaded up the freezer at the Masonic Temple with delicious prepared food, and the intention will be a free meal for you all very soon. Stay tuned!
This too shall pass, y’all. Please unite, take care
of yourselves and each other, and keep digging local!
