Anonymous Gift to Food Connection Will Feed Tens of Thousands of People in WNC

After seeing an inspiring story about a relief effort between Wicked Weed Brewing’s Cultura and the local community, an anonymous donor stepped up in a huge way sending local nonprofit Food Connection a $200,000 check to help purchase more food which Cultura’s staff is now turning into meals for local organizations and individuals impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This week over 3,000 meals have been distributed thanks to the partnership among Food Connection, Cultura, and YMCA of WNC. Beginning next week, Cultura chefs will create 5,000 meals each week on an ongoing basis.

“We are beyond thrilled to have been entrusted with this gift which could not have arrived at a more critical time. Our neighbors desperately need food right now,” said Flori Pate, Co-founder and Executive Director, Food Connection. Read the full story here.

To our friends who've lost their jobs, including those in the service industry and hospitality workers, Food Connection has teamed up with Wicked Weed Brewing's Cultura to offer free prepared meals "to go." These meals are made possible through generous donations by not only the anonymous donor but also Hickory Nut Gap,  Apple Brandy Farms, Chop Shop Butchery and US Foods.

Food Connection will be set up in the parking lot next to the Masonic Temple and will offer curbside distributed meals from noon until 2 pm, or until they run out every Saturday through June. Special thanks to Shay Brown Events and the Masonic Temple.

For the safety of our beautiful community:

  • If you come by car, please stay in your car at all times.
  • If you come by foot, please keep a social distance of at least 6 feet.
  • Wear a mask if you have one.
Be sure to spread the word to your industry worker friends, and we'll see you there!

Food Connection is currently fundraising to get more local chefs back in the kitchen! You can purchase meals for those in need and your favorite chefs will prepare the meals for Food Connection to distribute.
