Greg Garrison, UNCA alumni and co-owner of The Hop Ice Cream Cafe, shares some insights into how he and his wife Ashley are operating their family business in the midst of uncertainties. Check out the interview to see how they've switched gears and filled pints.
While we've all had to adjust to the "new normal" (whatever that is), our local business owners and managers each have their own story to tell about how they've been affected and what they are doing during these unprecedented times. Dig Local is proud to partner with our friend, Ann Smith, at Leap Frog Tours to interview some of the folks who make Asheville, Asheville.

Virtual Downtown After 5!

Boy, do we miss Downtown After 5 and although it's not the same we are glad for the opportunity to "plug in" and listen to musicians remotely. The Virtual Downtown After 5 series continues on Friday, August 21 with Asheville's own Floating Action followed by psychedelic electric banjo rock master Tall Tall Trees.

Floating Action, a band that has gotten tighter and tighter over the last two years and turned into a soul-grooving group that wouldn’t have been out of its league in Muscle Shoals, Memphis, Philadelphia or Detroit in the 60s and 70s, brings listeners to a very calm place where they woo with gorgeous melodies and scrappily fuzzed-out tones that radiate a vinyl warmth that somehow immediately instills a feeling of nostalgic happiness.

Tall Tall Trees is the pseudonym of songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mike Savino. Moving to New York in the early aughts with aspirations of being a bassist in the city’s vibrant jazz and experimental music scene, Savino soon switched his focus to banjo and writing songs, resulting in the eponymous 2009 debut, Tall Tall Trees. In the decade since, Savino has toured non-stop, pioneering a world of psychedelic electric banjo music, captivating audiences with his loop-based one-man shows.

Food Connection Fundraiser update - meals to your doorstep!

Did you buy a ticket (pre-Covid) to Food Connection's annual Chefs In Action fundraiser? If so, we've got some good news! Although the in-person event has had to be canceled, Food Connection will be bringing cooler bags containing Wicked Weed Brewing dinners and beer, Biltmore Wines, Devils Foot Beverage sodas, and dessert from Celine and Company directly to your home!
This is a "thank you" for your support and also a celebration of the partnership between Wicked Weed Brewing and Food Connection. Did you know that together they have delivered 40,000 meals to WNC families in need in just four months? Shout outs to the YMCA for helping move meals, too!
