Philip DeAngelo Studio and Gallery is the working studio of Asheville artist Philip DeAngelo, in the Wedge Building on Roberts Street in the River Arts District. DeAngelo paints colorful, textural Contemporary Americana landscapes on wood, masonite, ceiling tin, cork and even banana leaf, and sells original art and giclee prints. The gallery also shows work by other local artists in basketry, metal sculpture, woodturning, glass and clay pottery, and it's open to visitors several days a week, so it's a good stop for gifts.
Studio hours change through the year, so call ahead, then stop by on the way to Wedge Brewing downstairs.
Asheville art fans know DeAngelo for his rich palette, depth of color and the texture of his paintings, which you notice more in person than online.
