What you need to know
Sand Hill Kitchen is a scratch-made breakfast and lunch counter inside the BP station at Sand Hill and Sardis Roads, right where West Asheville runs into Enka-Candler. Chef and owner Jamie Wade opened it in January 2017, and in 2022 a statewide magazine contest named her North Carolina's Fried Chicken Champ. Everyone talks about the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich with house dilly pickles, cheddar and herbed Duke's mayo, but the Reuben, the burgers, the beet sandwich and the breakfast burritos hold their own. The chips are hand cut and fried in house, and the banana pudding takes after her grandmother's. Breakfast runs Wednesday through Saturday and lunch Tuesday through Saturday. It's closed Sunday and Monday.

Order ahead online or call (828) 633-6868, then grab it at the drive-up window. There's not much seating inside, so plan to eat in the car or take it home.
