What you need to know

O.Henry's is North Carolina's oldest gay bar, open on Haywood Street in downtown Asheville since 1975. The bar runs seven days a week, 4pm to 2am, and has been the anchor of Asheville's LGBTQ+ nightlife through five decades of the city's growth. The interior is unpretentious and welcoming — a neighborhood bar with a history.

Local's Tip

Saturday drag shows run two sets — first around 10:30pm, second around 11:30pm. Get there by 10pm to find a spot with sightlines. Karaoke runs Wednesdays and Fridays starting around 8–9pm. 21+ only, every night.

What the locals say

"This place has been here longer than most Asheville bars have been alive. Saturdays are a must — two drag shows back to back, the crowd is mixed and loose, and you never quite know what you're going to get. Karaoke nights on Wednesdays and Fridays are genuinely fun if you show up ready."
