WPVM, now on air as Radio Asheville 103.7 FM, is an independent, listener-supported community radio station serving Asheville and Western North Carolina. Volunteer hosts run the shows, and the music mixes Asheville artists with Appalachian bluegrass, folk and other Blue Ridge traditions, alongside news, public affairs, arts and independent journalism that cover the local live music scene. Owned by the nonprofit Friends of WPVM, it stays free of corporate influence and also streams online, and it has built a backup system to stay on air during power outages.
Local independent artists can submit music for airplay through the station's website. Want your own weekly show? WPVM welcomes volunteer hosts, no experience needed.
Asheville listeners tune in for local voices and local bands you won't hear on commercial radio, and plenty of hosts got their start with no radio experience at all.
