Sparky's Toys & Gifts
What you need to know
Sparky's Toys & Gifts is a neighborhood toy shop on Haywood Road in West Asheville, set between two local schools. It opened in 2017 and grew into the bigger space next door in 2019. The shelves are stacked with books, board games, puzzles and hands-on toys for kids of all ages, plus gifts for grown-ups. It leans unplugged, with toys that get kids building, playing and reading instead of staring at a screen. Sparky's is open seven days a week: Monday through Friday 11 to 6, Saturday 10 to 6 and Sunday 10 to 5.
Local's Tip
Stop by on a weekday afternoon before a birthday party, tell the staff the kid's age, and ask them to wrap it on the way out.
What the locals say
West Asheville parents and grandparents treat it as the neighborhood gift stop, and the staff are good at pointing you to the right thing for a certain age. Gift wrapping is part of the deal.
