What you need to know

Xico (say Shee-ko) is a wood-fired Mexican restaurant and seafood spot on Biltmore Ave in Asheville's South Slope, from chef Scott Linquist and his friend Dave McFarland. Most of the menu comes off open flames and a Josper oven, from whole fish a la talla and a 34 oz bone-in ribeye for two to duck with the red mole of Xico, Veracruz. Guacamole gets smashed in molcajetes, the Caesar is made tableside, and there's a private dining room for 12 to 24. Dinner runs every night but Tuesday, with brunch on Saturday and Sunday.

Local's Tip

Reserve ahead for Friday or Saturday dinner, and order the tableside Caesar if there are two or more of you. For a quick lunch, head downstairs to Xico Chico.

What the locals say

Locals know about the taco window downstairs. Xico Chico is a striped door off the parking lot where you ring a bell and order tacos, quesadillas and burritos, every day from 11 to 9, with a small patio.
