What you need to know
Octopus Garden is Asheville's homegrown smoke shop, opened downtown in 1993 and still local and independent. There are six shops around town: Patton Avenue in West Asheville, Merrimon Avenue, Coxe Avenue in the South Slope, two on Tunnel Road in East Asheville and one in Weaverville. The glass cases are the draw, with functional pieces from more than 20 independent glassblowers alongside bubblers, rigs, spoons and water pipes. Shelves also carry vaporizers, hookahs and shisha, CBD and hemp products, incense and a deep cigar case with names like Arturo Fuente, Rocky Patel and Drew Estate.

Ask about the rewards program at checkout, since points turn into discounts on later visits. Bring your ID, because every shop is 21 and up.
