What you need to know

Sideways Farm & Brewery is a family-run farm brewery on a seven-acre property in Etowah, about half an hour south of Asheville. Jon and Carrieann Schneider opened it in 2018, and Jon brews small batches packaged in Champagne-style bottles. The Belgian blackberry ale is the best seller, alongside beers like the Mildly Bitter Blonde and a sage-smoked wheat. There's a taproom, a covered porch, picnic tables and a firepit, plus sheep, goats, chickens and ducks. Hours are Thursday and Friday 4 to 8 PM, Saturday noon to 8 PM and Sunday noon to 7 PM.

Local's Tip

Keep your dog close around the farm animals, since goats, ducks and chickens share the property. Go on a Saturday afternoon and grab a seat by the firepit.

What the locals say

Families come for the farm animals and the firepit, and dog owners like that pups are welcome in the tasting room and on the porch.
