What you need to know

Sky Top Orchard is a family-run u-pick apple orchard on Pinnacle Mountain Road above Flat Rock, about 40 minutes south of Asheville, and it's been a family tradition since 1967. More than 20 apple varieties ripen from late summer through October, and the hilltop rows look out over the Blue Ridge. Kids can ride the hay wagon and the bee train, fire the apple cannons and burn off energy in a kids' play area, and the market sells hot cider donuts, cider and pre-picked apples. New for 2026, u-pick runs on timed-entry tickets you reserve online, which guarantees your spot in the orchard. Sky Top is open daily from 9 AM to 6 PM in season, and it placed No. 7 in USA Today's 2026 Best Orchard voting.

Local's Tip

Reserve a u-pick time online before you go, since weekend slots sell out. Grab cider donuts on your way out, and call (828) 692-7930 to plan a group visit.

What the locals say

Hendersonville and Asheville families make the drive up every fall, and plenty of locals say the mountain view from the top rows is the best in the county.
