What you need to know

Stepp's Hillcrest Orchard is a fourth-generation working farm at 170 Stepp Orchard Drive in Edneyville, east of Hendersonville, with 40 acres of apples on a 100-acre farm. It was one of Henderson County's first pick-your-own orchards, and more than 25 varieties ripen from mid-August through late October. There's no admission charge, so you pay only for what you pick and do. Families can wander the 5-acre corn maze and the hay ground any day, and weekends add wagon rides, apple cannons, a jump pad and food trucks. You can also pick sunflowers, zinnias and grapes, and pumpkins come in later in the fall. The Apple House sells apples, cider and baked goods. Hours are Monday through Thursday 9 AM to 5:30 PM, Friday and Saturday 9 AM to 6 PM, and Sunday 10 AM to 6 PM.
