Bev's Steak is a chef-owned steakhouse in a 1920s basement under Cherry Street in downtown Black Mountain. Chef Jake Whitman and Ali Whitman opened it in December 2025 and named it for Jake's grandmother, Beverly. The menu runs the American steakhouse through Asian technique: koji-marinated steaks, Brasstown Beef cut in-house, elk loin, hamachi crudo and beef marrow toast. Eater named it one of the hottest new steakhouses in the country. Dinner runs Tuesday through Saturday, with Ramen Wednesdays and Prime Rib Fridays.
Wednesday ramen and Friday prime rib are limited and first come, first served, so book an early table. You can skip the Cherry Street stairs by coming in through the basement patio off the public lot between Cherry and Broadway.
Locals call it the best reason to drive out to Black Mountain for dinner. The exposed brick, leather and dark wood feel like a speakeasy wine cellar, and people talk about the French onion soup for days.
