ArtsAVL
What you need to know
ArtsAVL, formerly the Asheville Area Arts Council, is the nonprofit arts council for Asheville and Buncombe County, supporting artists, arts professionals and creative businesses through connection, advocacy and grants. Its Arts for Schools grants funded 20 programs for K-12 students in the 2026-27 school year, and it runs member exhibitions like the New Members Exhibition each fall, an online artist directory and open calls for artists. It also leads arts recovery work after Helene damaged nearly half of the region's cultural assets.
Local's Tip
Artists can join early in the year to get listed in the directory and see open calls. Watch for member exhibition openings each fall.
What the locals say
Local artists and regulars at gallery openings use ArtsAVL to find grants and calls for art, and neighborhood teachers count on its school grants.
