Sunday brunch at Rocky's on Patton Avenue in West Asheville brings chicken and waffles, chicken biscuits, biscuits and gravy and eggs benedict, with Bloody Marys and mimosas to wash it down. The chicken biscuit is $15.25, and the brunch waffle and benedict are $16 each.

Doors open at 11 on Sundays.

Rocky's Hot Chicken Shack has been frying Nashville-style hot chicken in Asheville since 2009, and this is the West Asheville shop at 1455 Patton Avenue. Every piece is fried to order and starts out plain, then they spice it from mild up to extra hot, and plenty of regulars just get it plain.

The birds are naturally raised and the sides are made from scratch daily, from mac and cheese to collards. Beyond fried, there's rotisserie and grilled chicken, pot pies, chicken and waffles, salads and sandwiches, and they pour beer, wine and boozy slushies.

It's open 11 AM to 9 PM Sunday through Thursday and until 10 on Friday and Saturday, with a different special every day of the week.

West Asheville folks keep this one in the regular rotation, and the line out the door on weekends says plenty. The hot chicken gets the attention, but the mac and cheese has its own fan club.
