Vanishing Winters: A Photographic Elegy

The Scoop

Tanya Triber's new show connects three winters on opposite sides of the Atlantic, all of them warming. The 17 photographs move from the Blue Ridge to Iceland's glaciers to Norway's Lofoten Islands above the Arctic Circle. The Appalachians and Norway's mountains were once a single range before the Atlantic split them apart, and now they're heating up together. Triber has spent five years photographing Western North Carolina's high country and multiple field seasons working in the low light and rough weather of the far north. The images document specific places on specific days, and the case builds quietly through repetition. The opening reception is December 5 from 5 to 7 PM, with beer, wine and light bites. Triber will be at the gallery every Saturday in December from 1 to 4 PM, and again on closing day, January 2. Prints run from 16x20 to 20x40 inches, with $50 from each sale going to Protect Our Winters. The show runs December 5 through January 2 at Pink Dog Creative, 348 Depot Street in the River Arts District. Admission is free.
