Tall John's is a chef-owned neighborhood restaurant at 152 Montford Avenue in Asheville's historic Montford district, inside a former church built around 1906. Chef Trevor Payne cooks classics like steak tartare, Caesar salad, roast half chicken, steak Diane and a cheeseburger with fries, and the bar is known for freezer-cold martinis. Dinner runs nightly and brunch is Sunday. It's a MICHELIN Guide recommended restaurant.

Neighbors walk over for a martini at the bar and stay for dinner. Mountain Xpress readers named it Best New Restaurant in 2023, and in warm weather the dog-friendly patio fills up with regulars.
