Spicewalla is celebrating Diwali, the Festival of Lights, with an afternoon of Indian flavors at its Asheville shop. Botiwalla is serving street food bites and warm chai, and Desi-owned food makers are handing out samples.

Stop by anytime from 2 to 5 PM on Friday at the Grove Arcade, 1 Page Avenue. While you're there, browse the spices and pick up a few for your own kitchen.

It's free to attend. Swing by Friday afternoon and celebrate with a cup of chai.

Spicewalla is a spice shop in the Grove Arcade in downtown Asheville, from James Beard Award-winning chef Meherwan Irani. The Asheville store is the brand's flagship, stocked with spices sourced in small batches, then roasted, ground and packed by hand. Along with single spices you'll find signature blends, rubs, olive oil, hot sauce and honey. The shop is open every day from 10:30 AM to 6 PM.

Local cooks and regulars stock their kitchens here, and the blends make easy gifts for visiting friends.
