SHEBANG: We Are All Animals, Jan 8 to Mar 25

Pink Dog Creative opens the new year with SHEBANG: We Are All Animals. It's a group show of 20+ artists curated by Tricia Reeks of Meerkat Press. Painting, photography, sculpture, fiber, metal, and wood all look at the animal in everyday life and imagination: ritual, instinct, symbolism, and the ways people come together.

The opening reception on Friday, January 8, from 5 to 8 p.m., is also the launch party for Kathe Koja's new novel SHEBANG, from Meerkat Press. Koja will give a performative reading from the book, a modern fable about love, community, and survival. Five dollars from every direct preorder and every copy sold that night goes to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue.

Pink Dog Creative is an artist complex on Depot Street in Asheville's River Arts District, set in a former textile manufacturing and warehouse building. Artists Randy Shull and Hedy Fischer created it, and about 35 artists now work in studios across the buildings, alongside Pink Dog Gallery and creative businesses. You can watch artists at work, buy straight from the makers and see rotating gallery shows, then stop at Crusco or GRIND Coffee Bar in the same complex.

Pink Dog Creative shares the River Arts District neighborhood with New Belgium and Wedge breweries and hundreds of local artists, so it's an easy first stop on a gallery walk.
