Crab Cakes on 9
Have you been to Capella on 9 Rooftop Bar and Lounge at the AC hotel yet? If not, go! It’s a real gem located right downtown. And just in case you thought it was only for hotel guests and tourists, it’s not.
Capella on 9 is there for everyone! You, me, that guy; any and all of us are welcome to ride the elevator up the 9th floor of the hotel, sidle-up to the long, elegant bar, order an excellent cocktail — I don’t drink, but I have heard many people rave about their cocktails — and find a nice cozy couch or corner to curl-up in while you enjoy the wonderful view.
You can either have a cup of coffee and a locally made snack from the concierge area, or grab a table — inside or out — for a sit-down meal or just a bite from their tapas menu. My recommendation: the Crab Cake Duo!
Two savory and slightly spicy crab cakes seared until crispy on the outside, served with piquillo remoulade, roasted garlic aioli, charred asparagus (yum!) and microgreens, this version of a classic Mid-Atlantic state dish has become one of my favorites in downtown.
Great crab cakes in the mountains of WNC? Yes, of course! That is especially unsurprising when one considers that the executive chef at Capella on 9 is Rakim Gaines, formerly of The Lobster Trap, which I know we all love.
So, go see Chef Rakim and the excellent, professional, friendly staff at Capella on 9. The space is fun, open and bright, and the balcony and patio offer Asheville’s only 360-degree views of downtown and beyond. The bartenders are some of Asheville’s local favorites, the servers and managers are very professional and polished, and the food — of course — is tasty, satisfying and deftly made by skilled chefs and cooks who are happy to cook for us, their fellow citizens of Asheville, as well as those visiting our wonderful city!
