SoCon Tournament Returns to Asheville

With the most stacked tournament field in years, the 2019 Southern Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament is expected to be one of the best events of 2019. But with an also stacked list of events from March 7-11, attendees will get more than just seats at a game.
With over 30,000 people estimated to turnout for the tournamentĀ weekend, SoCon gives back tremendously to theĀ economy of Asheville. And with its liveĀ music lineup, the event even promotes our city's local musicians.Ā

The Ingles SoCon Experience
A free, interactive and family-friendly event space, located outside the U.S. Cellular Center at 68 Haywood Street,Ā will feature a pep rally stage,Ā basketball themed activities, food and drink options, a big screen viewing area, andĀ concerts from some of your favorite local musicians.

Joe Lasher
When: Friday, March 8 atĀ 6:15 p.m.
Twenty-one-year-old country phenom Joe Lasher has been captivating his home state of North Carolina for years with his dynamic country music performances.

Ryan āRnBā Barber ā BoogiTherapi
When: Saturday, March 9 at 11 a.m.
Some of Ashevilleās funkiest musicians have come together to form the all-star funk band BoogiTherapi headed by Asheville funk soldier Ryan āRnBā Barber.

The Carolina Lowdown Band
When: Saturday, March 9 at 4:30 p.m.
The Carolina Lowdown BandĀ is a popular Asheville band performing rock and roll and dance hits from the 80s through today.

Leeda "Lyric" Jones
When: Sunday, March 10 at 2 p.m.
LYRIC, led by Leeda āLyricā Jones, plays a mixture of pop, soul and funk. The five-part band has developed a dedicated following in Asheville and the surrounding areas.Ā

Hoops Against Hunger
All tournament long, anyone who brings an approved food item will receive $5 off a single session ticket for any session. Collection bins will also be located at all host hotels during the tournament.

Downtown Dribble and Kids Fest
When: Saturday, March 9 from 9-11 a.m.
Children participating get a free basketball, T-shirt and tickets to the noon session of the games. Kids can also enjoy a pep rally followed by a parade where they dribble theirĀ SoConĀ basketballs from Pack Square to the U.S. Cellular Center.

Teddy Bear Toss
When: Sunday, March 10 at 4 p.m.
Make a donation to the Mountain Child Advocacy Center and you get a stuffed teddy bear to throw on the court! All teddy bears will be donated to Mission Childrenās Hospital, North Carolina Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies to give comfort to children whose families are in accidents.

Hometown Heroes Night
When: Monday, March 11 at 7 p.m.
Members of the military, fire, police, emergency and medical services, charitable organizations, government, and civil service will be afforded an opportunity to watch the menās championship game.
