Beauty for All, Y'all!

The new day spa that caters to EVERYONE!
Photos by Beauty Bin.

Have you ever noticed how segregated hair salons tend to be? Has that ever bothered you? Well, it did local WNC entrepreneur Courtney Maybin. Her dream was to create a space where ALL are welcome no matter your ethnicity. Every single one of her stylists and estheticians are trained to work on all hair and skin types. How refreshing, right? She and her husband, TC Roberson alumni and Major League Baseball star, Cameron Maybin (of New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers fame), are thinking outside the box and giving back to their community in big ways.

Their new salon also includes a bar (liquor license coming soon)! How Asheville, right?

A WNC native, Courtney grew up in Fletcher and Brevard. After 5-6 years of traveling with her husband, they chose to buy a home in Asheville, (because they love it here!), and there was no doubt in Courtney’s mind that she was going to open her first storefront business in the AVL.

When Courtney first became a licensed esthetician in 2018, she began working out of her home studio to gain more practice and try to increase her clientele. However, her dream was still to have a storefront spa. Wanting to start out small as she figured out her business plan, she worked in her home studio for most of 2019.

Then the doors to Beauty Bin opened on November 15th, 2019 at 117 Sweeten Creek Road, a full-service day spa and blow-dry bar that offers all of your beauty needs under one roof.

“I always knew I wanted to open a spa, and the idea of adding the dry bar came from my years of traveling with my husband. Every time we would go into a new city, I was always looking for a blow-dry bar. It’s tough getting into established salons for same-day appointments, and I usually just needed a quick wash, dry and style. My goal was to get all beauty services under one roof, to keep clients from having to go all around the city for their needs; and to make them affordable so that they are accessible for everyone!”

The mission behind Beauty Bin is to make it an all-inclusive place where clients feel welcome. No matter their skin type, hair type, gender, age, socio-economic background, Courtney wants everyone to find that Beauty Bin is a place for them.

“I trained all my estheticians to ensure they have the ability to work on all client’s skin types, hair types, skin concerns, etc. The same will be for our hairstylist when we open the hair salon. Family is a huge part of my life. I want my clients to feel like they are part of a family, and I want my employees to feel the same.”

Speaking of family, Courtney’s mother, Tammy Barnwell, is the general manager!

Beauty Bin’s full-service hair salon is set to open in March, and they’re currently offering a $99 special for eyelash extensions for the month of February, as well as two February facials for $99: the Champagne and Chocolate Oxygen Facial, and Berry Mimosa Oxygen Facial. With prom and wedding season on the horizon, the business will be offering a special on facials and lashes for prom, as well as doing a giveaway to girls in need of assistance around prom.

Services offered include customized body scrubs, eyebrow and eyelash tinting, eyelash extensions, waxing, massages, microdermabrasion, and a wide variety of facials and peels. They even offer 15% off waxing on Wednesdays!

One cool thing about the business is that the salon side is set up at an actual bar.

“We hope to receive a liquor license in the coming month, but we will definitely be serving beer, wine, and nonalcoholic drinks. It’s a cool vibe on both sides, but I think the custom bar where they are seated getting their services is an awesome bonus!” Courtney says.

Have a drink while you have your hair done, or before your wax? Why not?

Beauty Bin previously teamed up with Wine and Design at Christmas to become donation sites for Manna Food Bank, and they hope to be able to collaborate with other local businesses in the future.

“We want to always be a place for all people, and a one-stop-shop for all beauty needs. We have definitely seen growth in clientele since our opening month thanks to a few publications, Dig Local, our marketing team, and social media!”
