Dig Local Asheville, NC

Where to Go, What to Do, Everyday

Dig Local - Weekly Scoop : July 30- August 5, 2018 - Asheville, NC

“People have been trying to describe what makes this town so special, and I think they always get it wrong. It truly is the people living here that make it what it is. This store would have never made it anywhere else. We have such a dedicated and passionate customer base that we owe our lives to.” - Marc McCloud, Owner, Orbit DVD

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… Asheville, like many other cities, was filled with video rental stores. This trend didn’t persevere due to modern entertainment options such as Netflix and YouTube. Video stores have now disappeared from our local landscape except for the tried, the true, the only, Orbit DVD.

Making its start back in 2003 strictly as a video rental store, many people felt that Orbit DVD, like others, would simply bow out to tech. Lucky for us, they were wrong! When owner, Marc McCloud, felt the waves of the failing video store industry, he pivoted and transformed Orbit DVD into a multi-faceted storefront. Now, not only do they sell and rent videos, they also sell and rent video games, comics, books, and pop culture items.

Marc loves the local Asheville community and the fast friendships he has gained from it. When asked about being a part of our vibrant community, he replied, "...we will never be able to find another Asheville.” Be sure to stop in and say hello to Marc and the rest of the crew at Orbit DVD in West Asheville at 781 Haywood Rd.
