Eblen Charities is an Asheville nonprofit that has helped Western North Carolina individuals and families through crisis and hardship since 1991, when it was founded by Joe Eblen. From its office at 23 Hamilton Street, it gives fast, practical help with heating and utility bills, housing, clothing, medical needs, and food for students during school and spring break, and refers people to other services when needed. Its yearly drives include the winter coat giveaway, the Ingles Tools for Schools supply drive and the Ingles Magical Christmas Toy Drive, and it ran a Helene Relief Fund after the storm. One recent winter it gave out 10,835 clothing items to 2,167 people. The office is open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm.
