Orbit DVD
What you need to know
Orbit DVD is an independent movie and game store at 781 Haywood Road in West Asheville, in the old Bledsoe building. Marc McCloud opened it as a video rental store in 2003, and since 2021 it's been all retail: new and used DVDs, Blu-rays, 4K UHDs and VHS, plus imports, region-free and out-of-print titles. Look for boutique labels like Criterion, Arrow, Vinegar Syndrome, Severin and Kino Lorber, a retro gaming room with classic consoles and cartridges, and books and toys. It's open Thursday through Monday, noon to 7.
Local's Tip
Circle around to the free lot out back. Bring your used movies and games for cash or store credit, and remember it's closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
What the locals say
Collectors come for boutique 4K steelbooks and the cult horror and imports you can't stream anywhere. Plan to browse for a while, and bring your wish list.
