When I was a kid skate-boarding all over town we would hit up the Orange Peel for shows... fast forward 25 years and there are DOZENS of amazing places to catch a show!

When I was a kid this place was a scrap yard. Now it's been transformed to one of our most favorite venues in town! Located right by the river it's an awesome place to catch outdoor shows with big acts such as Michael Franti and String Cheese Incident. Also be sure and get the fried chicken sandwich from Root Down and one of DSSOVLR's famous lagers.

We were blown away by Eulogy! It's like it magically appeared in the South Slope overnight. This is Burial Brewing's latest project and a great place to catch a show and hang out on their rooftop patio for a killer sunset. They've got some pretty famous acts on their calendar, too.

We can actually walk up to Fleetwoods from our house. They've always got something interesting going on. I recommend checking out Mountain Monday. And, if you're looking to get married, look no further. Yes, it doubles as a wedding chapel. 

The Peel (as we locals call it) has been around for decades and has some of the biggest acts in town. It's a great place to catch a show and features about every genre out there. Still family-owned and operated after all these years. We heard through the grapevine that their now selling Manicomio's Pizza there in house. (DEFINITELY something you'll want to experience).

We recently took the kids out to the LEAF festival and had a great time.  If you happen to be in WNC in May or October you must experience LEAF in Black Mountain. It's a four day family-friendly festival (we just got day passes -kids free- but you can camp!) with musicians from all over the world performing. 


My buddy came to town recently and was asking if there are any "alcohol free' venues in Beer City? We ended up at Sovereign Kava for Django Jazz Jam (hot cllub-style Jazz) and had a blast. We ended up going back later in the week for Poetry Open Mic night and there were many talented local folks and some who came from as far a way as Raleigh and Virginia. They also have a chess night and ping pong. And it's dog-friendly.

Some friends and I ended up at Different Wrld recently (also in West AVL) and danced the night away. This black-owned business does an amazing job supporting up and coming artists, performers, DJ's and dreamers. It can also be rented out for private events. 

Family Tip: We love taking the kids to the patio shows early in the evenings. It's super chill. The  Taqueria has really fresh food. I recommend the slow roasted carnita tacos and the kids chicken cheese tacos are only 5 bucks. 
Adult Tip: The Grey Eagle has an amazing old-school vibe with killer acoustics. Some of the most famous acts have graced this stage over the years. Also, check out the new RAD brewing across the street for a pre-show beer.

Salvage Station is Asheville's newest riverfront bar, restaurant, concert hall, and special events venue. From music shows and festivals, to community and private events, the Salvage Station is an excellent place to hang out and have a great experience.

Enormous space to play, run, dance and it's kept and maintained so nicely! Friendly staff, quick service, great music, delicious food with generous portions. Great for kids as plenty of big open spaces for them to run around.

Brought to life by the team at Burial Beer Co., Eulogy is a mid-sized room, aiming to add to the city’s vibrant  music and live performance scene. The venue is adjacent to Burial’s original South Slope Taproom, which opened in 2013. The space features a full bar with 18 taps of Burial’s beer, house made cocktails, wine from VISUALS, and more, with a rooftop wine and cocktail bar to spotlight VISUALS, Burial’s product line of  wine, cider, and aperitifs, opening in Spring 2024.

Fleetwoods is a rock and roll wedding chapel. They have beer, wine, cider, champagne cocktails, a vintage shop, live music, events and weddings.
