828 Family Pizzeria is a family-run New York style pizza shop on Merrimon Ave in North Asheville, open for lunch and dinner. The recipe goes back to 1933 and Great Uncle Patsy's pizzeria in Harlem, and a fourth generation of the family still makes it here. The crust is thin and crisp, with toasted spots from a gas-fired oven the cooks turn by hand so every side faces the flame. The tomato sauce is made in house, along with a lot of the dressings and toppings. Beyond pies, the menu covers salads, pastas, sandwiches, calzones and strombolis.

Regulars have been coming for years, and some still know it by its old name, Marco's. It's an easy family pick, and the calamari has its fans too.
