Influenced by figures like Joni Mitchell, Rilke, and Zen parables, her songwriting explores the inner world with curiosity, reverence, and emotional clarity. Though she traded monastic stillness for the life of a touring musician, that contemplative core remains central to her work. With over 1,000 international shows and eight studio albums behind her, Maloney is releasing her ninth and most personal record, Exploding Star (January 31, 2025). Written after the death of her father and recorded in her abandoned childhood home using his guitar, the album is a deeply intimate collection—both celebratory and heartbreaking. Produced by Darlingside’s Don Mitchell with arrangements by Isabella DeHerdt and Isaac Eliot, the record moves fluidly between lush and sparse, urgent and hushed, illuminating grief with honesty and grace.
