The Furious Bongos are a Frank Zappa tribute ensemble, led by bassist and music director Conrad St. Clair alongside drummer Chad Wackerman (who logged years in Zappa's own touring band). The group is a large ensemble — featuring keys, multiple vocalists, guitar, saxophone, MalletKAT, and percussion — and they approach Zappa's catalog with the rigor and irreverence the material demands. Their recent Third Room residency generated substantial recordings of full-set performances covering everything from *Bongo Fury* to Zappa's more orchestral work. This is an all-ages show, so you don't need to be 21 to catch one of the most technically ambitious tribute acts operating in Asheville right now. The band's ability to pull off Zappa's more challenging arrangements — dense polyrhythms, time signature shifts, extended arrangements — has made them a genuine live spectacle. Show at 8pm. All ages.
