Free Outdoor Theatre at Hazel Robinson Amphitheatre — home to Montford Park Players, one of the country's longest-running outdoor Shakespeare companies — runs Friday through Sunday evenings at 7:30pm from May through October each year. The 2026 season opens May 1 with The Wizard of Oz, followed by Othello (June 5–27), The Taming of the Shrew (July 3–Aug 1), The League of the Scarlet Pimpernel (Aug 7–29), Romeo and Juliet (Sept 4–26), and The Hope of Oz (Oct 2–24). Admission is pay-what-you-can — free if that's what you need, donation-supported. No Sunday performance on the final weekend of each run. "Bring a blanket and a picnic and just sit on the hillside under the trees — it's one of those Asheville things that locals don't talk about enough. The acting is genuinely good and you forget you're watching Shakespeare after the first ten minutes." Hazel Robinson Amphitheatre is at 100 Gay St, Asheville, NC 28801, in the Montford Historic District about one mile north of downtown. Parking on Gay St and neighborhood streets; arrive 20–30 minutes early for hillside seating. Follow @hazelrobamp for concert and special event announcements.
