Asheville Jazz Orchestra plays Sunday, July 26. Local big band that's been around since the early 2000s, does the classic jazz orchestra repertoire plus arrangements of more contemporary stuff. They play regular shows at venues around town and usually pack a solid horn section with some of the area's better jazz players. The room brings in acoustic-focused lineups across folk, Americana, jazz, and world music traditions, all in a proper seated listening setup where the sound actually carries. It's tucked up in Black Mountain and tends to draw an older crowd that knows how to shut up during the quiet parts. The acoustics are legitimately dialed in, so this is where you go when the music matters more than the scene.
