Exploring Alice Coltrane's Legacy at Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center

Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center celebrates Cosmic Music: The Life, Art and Transcendence of Alice Coltrane, the first full biography of the jazz harpist, composer and spiritual leader, with an evening built around its author, Andy Beta.

Beta sits down with musician Surya Botofasina for a conversation moderated by Jeff Arnal, and then Surya performs. It runs 7 to 9 PM Wednesday at the museum on College Street downtown.

Grab your ticket through the museum's Ticket Tailor page and come hear Alice Coltrane's story told by the people carrying it forward.

Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center is a free museum at 120 College Street in downtown Asheville, dedicated to Black Mountain College, the experimental school that ran near Black Mountain from 1933 to 1957. Its upper and lower galleries rotate historic and contemporary shows, and right now Imaginary Landscapes looks at the college's architecture and design through Jan. 9, 2027. It's open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 to 5, with a suggested donation.

For a storefront museum, it does a lot. Since opening in 1993 it has put on more than 80 exhibitions and over 2,000 events, from artist talks and book launches to experimental music nights, plus an annual international conference on the college.
