The Momma Molasses Band plays Jack Of The Wood on Friday, October 16 at 8:30 PM. Easy one to plan a night around.

The kitchen here takes pub food seriously, fish and chips that've won actual awards, proper Reubens, Irish stew that makes sense given the 18 rotating taps and whiskey selection. It's the kind of place where you can catch a Thursday night bluegrass jam at seven, then stick around for solid food that holds up whether you're three pints deep or stone sober.

Jack of the Wood is a Celtic-style pub at 95 Patton Avenue in downtown Asheville, pouring since 1997. It has 18 rotating taps of local and international craft beer, a whiskey list and a menu of fish and chips, Philly cheesesteaks, classic and vegetarian Reubens and burgers. Live music runs through the week: an Old-Time Jam on Wednesdays at 5 p.m., Drew Matulich's Bluegrass Jam on Thursdays at 7 p.m. with an open jam after, and local and touring bands on Friday and Saturday nights at 9.

Asheville locals and pickers have treated Jack's as a home base for years, and regulars say the Thursday bluegrass jam is a highlight of the week.
