Restring Appalchia Grand Opening plays Restring Appalchia Marshall on Saturday, October 31 at 1:00 PM. Grab a friend and make a night of it.

ReString Appalachia is a nonprofit that started after Hurricane Helene to put free instruments back in the hands of musicians who lost them. Musician and American Songcatcher podcast host Nicholas Edward Williams founded it, and it has given out more than 1,000 instruments. On Oct 31, 2026 it opens the Marshall Music Exchange at 38 S Main Street in Marshall, a music shop with instruments, strings, repairs and luthier work, plus the ReString Hub, a 50-capacity room for jams, workshops, open mics and gospel singing.

Musicians who lost their gear in Helene call it a lifeline. Singer-songwriter Cam Ragsdale got a restored 1906 fiddle and a PA system back through the program.
