Asheville takes breakfast seriously, and biscuits are the common thread, whether they come out of a gas station kitchen in Candler or a busy room on Haywood Road. This list covers weekday breakfast, all-day cafes and the weekend brunch spots worth a wait.
Most breakfast places here don't take reservations. Go early on weekends, or go on a weekday and skip the line.
Mother
South Slope, 244 Short Coxe Ave
Mother is a bakery, cafe and natural wine spot from master baker Heidi Bass and Brett Watson, and one of three Asheville restaurants on the 2026 Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand list (Asheville Citizen-Times). It grew out of a River Arts District bread and wine shop and now fills a former garage on the South Slope (Time Out). Mornings mean loaves to take home, a daily quiche and sandwiches; later plates run to hamachi crudo and prawns with grits (Michelin Guide). It doesn't take reservations.
Tip: Grab a loaf on your way out for tomorrow's toast.
Sunny Point Café
West Asheville, 626 Haywood Rd
Sunny Point Café is a West Asheville comfort food institution that serves breakfast all day and pulls seasonal ingredients from its own on-site garden (Eater Carolinas). It's a 2026 Michelin Guide Recommended restaurant (Asheville Citizen-Times) and sits on The Infatuation's and Time Out's best-of lists too. Go for the sausage and cheese-stuffed French toast, the carrot hotcakes or the shrimp and grits, and pair it with anything from espresso to sweet tea to a cocktail.
Tip: Weekend mornings mean a wait. Grab a coffee at the Rabbit Hole bakery next door while you hold your spot, then sit on the covered patio by the garden.
All Day Darling
Montford, 102 Montford Ave
All Day Darling is chef Jacob Sessoms' neighborhood cafe in historic Montford, a 2026 Michelin Guide Recommended restaurant with a menu built around breakfast and lunch (Michelin Guide). It opens with "The Wake Up," a run of egg sandwiches, frittatas and shakshuka, then moves on to burgers, biscuit fried chicken sandwiches and avocado toast. Sides range from lentil fritters to crisp tater tots. Colorful chairs fill the room, and it works as well for a to-go order as for a long meal with friends.
Tip: Read the specials chalkboard near the register before you order, and add the tater tots.
Posana Biltmore Park
South Asheville, 264 Thetford St, Suite 110
Posana's Biltmore Park location is the only one that serves lunch and weekend brunch; downtown is dinner only (Posana). The kitchen is dedicated gluten-free, so it's the brunch to book when gluten-free means more than one safe item on the menu. Seasonal plates lean on local farms, and the cocktail and wine program carries over from dinner. It's in Biltmore Park Town Square, with easy parking for South Asheville. Their site says it's open seven days a week, with a limited menu in the late afternoon.
Tip: Book weekend brunch on OpenTable; this is one of the few brunches in town you can reserve.
More critics' picks for the morning
These spots made Eater's, The Infatuation's or Time Out's lists of Asheville's best restaurants, and they're built for the morning.
Sand Hill Kitchen
Enka-Candler, 491 Sardis Rd
Sand Hill Kitchen is a scratch kitchen inside the BP station at Sand Hill and Sardis Roads, and it's the reason a lot of people buy gas there. Breakfast means homemade biscuits with sausage gravy, breakfast burritos and grit cakes, plus a biscuit loaded with sausage, bacon, a fried egg, cheese and jalapeños (Sand Hill Kitchen). Lunch brings the Reuben, a vegetarian beet sandwich and a daily special, with house dilly pickles. Breakfast runs Wednesday through Friday, and Tuesday is lunch only.
Tip: Ask about the daily special before you order; it changes every day.
The Blackbird
Downtown, 47 Biltmore Ave
The Blackbird serves brunch every day, not just weekends, which makes it the downtown pick for a Tuesday brunch with visitors (The Blackbird). The chef-owned, veteran-owned kitchen cooks Modern Southern food: think shrimp and grits with andouille, peppers and creole sauce, and a seasonal pumpkin-maple coffee cake. There's a full bar, local beer on tap and a dining room on Biltmore Avenue a short walk from Pack Square. Menus follow the season, with fish from the Carolina coast and beer from local breweries.
Tip: Brunch every day means weekdays are easy. Save the weekend for a group and call ahead.
Biscuit Head
West Asheville, 733 Haywood Rd (also 417 Biltmore Ave and 1994 Hendersonville Rd)
Biscuit Head builds breakfast and lunch around big biscuits and a lineup of gravies: espresso red eye, fried chicken, pork sausage, veggie sausage and a sweet potato coconut gravy (Biscuit Head). There are gluten-free and vegan biscuits too, so a mixed table can all order the same way. With three Asheville locations, on Haywood Road, Biltmore Avenue near Mission Hospital and Hendersonville Road in South Asheville, there's usually one on your way. Every location serves breakfast and lunch only, so plan on a morning or midday visit.
Tip: If you order online, double-check which location you've picked before you pay.
The Watch Kitchen & Spirits
Downtown, 68 Patton Ave
The Watch is an all-day cafe and bar inside The Restoration Hotel, serving what it calls mountain comfort food (The Watch). Breakfast runs until 2 PM, which is late enough for a slow Saturday, and the coffee comes from The Rise. It's built for lingering: come for a coffee, stay for lunch, meet someone for a drink later. It's one of the few breakfast spots downtown where you can book a table on Resy. Lunch and dinner favorites and cocktails follow, so a breakfast meeting can easily roll into lunch.
Tip: Book a late breakfast just before the 2 PM cutoff and you've got brunch without the brunch crowd.
Finest
West Asheville, 794 Haywood Rd
Finest is a West Asheville deli that takes its cues from classic Italian-American delis, serving breakfast, lunch and brunch with ingredients from local farms (Finest). It pours local beer, natural wine and coffee, so it covers an early breakfast sandwich and a lunchtime beer equally well. The menu centers on sandwiches stacked with meats or vegan fillings, house-made pasta and all-day breakfast plates. It started as sandwich pop-ups at local markets before landing on Haywood Road. It's closed Monday and Tuesday and opens a little later on weekends.
Tip: Go on a weekday morning, grab coffee and a breakfast sandwich, and you'll have your pick of seats.
